Cubs pitcher Barret Loux underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this week, MLB.com reports. Loux was acquired in 2012 in the deal that sent Geovany Soto to Texas. He went 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA in 19 appearances (16 starts) with Triple-A Iowa last season.
The Chicago Cubs further trimmed their roster Monday by optioning third baseman Josh Vitters to Triple-A Iowa, and reassigning pitcher Barret Loux, shortstop Javier Baez and catcher Rafael Lopez to the team's minor-league camp. Baez is considered the team's top prospect by MLB.com and finished with a .333 batting average, four homers and nine RBI in 15 games this spring.

According to MLB.com, the Cubs acquired pitcher Barret Loux and a player to be named from Rangers on Tuesday in exchange for pitcher Jake Brigham. Loux went 14-1 with a 3.47 ERA in 25 starts for Double-A Frisco last season.
