Pirates pitcher Wirfin Obispo has been outrighted to Triple-A. Obispo was recently designated for assignment, and accepted an option to the minors. He's posted a 3.80 ERA over two minor-league levels.
The Pirates have designated right-handed minor leaguer Wirfin Obispo for assignment. Obispo owns a 2.98 ERA in two levels this season with 45 strikeouts in 45 innings, but he has walked 25 and has struggled with his control over the last three seasons.
The Pirates claimed Wirfin Obispo off waivers Sunday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.Obispo was designated for assignment on Saturday. In 19 appearances at Triple-A Gwinnett, he went 1-2 with a 4.66 ERA in 19 1/3 innings.
The Braves made several minor moves Saturday with three right-handers. They designated for assignment Wirfin Obispo, purchased the contract of Shae Simmons and optioned Ian Thomas back to Triple-A Gwinnett. Simmons has been tearing it up at Double-A Mississippi. He has yielded just two earned runs on 15 hits in 23 innings with just six walks and 30 strikeouts.
