Greene will not be on the Rangers' roster to begin the season, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Greene missed several days of Cactus League action due to a broken fingernail, but he still managed to pitch 5.1 spring innings, surrendering two earned runs with a 6:2 K:BB. Greene will presumably exercise the opt-out clause in his contract, but the 35-year-old likely won't receive more than a minor-league deal elsewhere.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Shane Greene: Removed due to broken nail
Greene was removed from Saturday's game against the Dodgers while warming up due to a broken nail on his right middle finger, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. A trainer was looking at Greene's hand and pulled him before Greene got a chance to pitch in Saturday's game, but the issue doesn't appear to be anything too serious. Greene has surrendered one earned run in four innings this spring while striking out five batters and walking one.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Shane Greene: Leaves game following warmups
Greene (hand) did not pitch in Saturday's spring training game against the Dodgers, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Pitching coach Mike Maddux and a trainer checked out Greene's throwing hand during warmups before they all walked back to the dugout. Diego Castillo entered the game in Greene's place.... Rangers' Shane Greene: Gets NRI from Rangers
Greene signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training. Greene, 35, has bounced around a lot over the last couple years, most recently tossing two scoreless frames in 2023 with the Cubs. He'll be in the mix for a bullpen spot in Texas but will most likely be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock to start off the 2024 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Shane Greene: Remains in organization
The Cubs sent Greene outright to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Greene was designated for assignment Wednesday in order to clear a roster spot for Luke Little, and he'll officially remain with the Cubs after clearing waivers. The 34-year-old righty holds a 2.16 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 16.2 innings with Iowa this season, but he will likely finish the season in the minors now that he no longer has a spot on the 40-man roster.... Cubs' Shane Greene: Designated for assignment
Greene was designated for assignment Wednesday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports. He tossed a scoreless inning in his one appearance with the Cubs but has lost his roster spot to Luke Little. Greene will have the opportunity to elect free agency if he wants, assuming he clears waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Shane Greene: Added to big-league roster
The Cubs selected Greene's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. The team has not yet announced a starter for the second game of Friday's doubleheader versus the Reds but it could be Greene, whose five appearances with Iowa were starts. He reached five innings in just one of those outings however, so Greene likely wouldn't pitch deep into the game.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Shane Greene: Inks minors deal with Cubs
Greene signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Sunday. Greene has reported for now to the Cubs' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League and should eventually join up with Triple-A Iowa. The 34-year-old former Tigers closer holds a rough 7.09 ERA and 26:15 K:BB over his last 26.2 major-league innings dating back to the beginning of the 2021 season. He spent the majority of the 2022 campaign pitching for the Triple-A affiliates of the Dodgers and Yankees, struggling to a 5.50 ERA across 34.1 minor-league frames.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Shane Greene: Back with Yankees on MiLB deal
Greene agreed to a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Friday, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports. Greene elected free agency earlier in the week after being DFA'd by the Yankees, but he'll return to the organization via a minor-league deal. The 33-year-old will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he has a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB across 21 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Shane Greene: Designated for assignment
Greene was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Sunday. Greene had his contract selected by the team Saturday and he pitched one inning, surrendering two runs on a Ramon Urias home run. He will now either return to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, get claimed by another team or be released outright.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Shane Greene: Contract purchased by Yankees
Greene's contract was selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. The veteran righty has a 0.75 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 10 strikeouts over his last 12 innings (nine appearances) at Triple-A. Greene will operate in a low-leverage role out of the big-league bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Shane Greene: Loses spot on 40-man roster
Greene was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Tuesday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Greene had his contract selected by Los Angeles over the weekend and picked up the win Sunday against the Phillies after delivering two scoreless innings, but it wasn't enough to stick on the big-league roster. David Price (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 IL in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Shane Greene: Earns win in 2022 debut
Greene (1-0) was credited with the win against Philadelphia on Sunday, pitching two scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and struck out one batter. Greene was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday and was asked to cover the final two innings on his first day with the big club. The right-hander kept the Phillies off the scoreboard and earned the win as a result of the Dodgers scoring three runs over the eighth and ninth frames. Greene will likely work in mostly low-leverage situations while he remains in the majors, though he has had plenty of past success in the big leagues and could work his way up the pecking order if he pitches well.... Dodgers' Shane Greene: Joins big-league club
Greene had his contract selected by the Dodgers on Sunday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Greene joined the Dodgers on a minor-league deal in mid-March and will now make his way to the big-league roster. The veteran right-hander struggled with a 7.23 ERA over 28 appearances last year but had a 2.39 ERA over the previous two seasons.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Shane Greene: Heads to minors
The Dodgers reassigned Greene to minor-league camp Monday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Greene was one of nine non-roster invitees that the Dodgers shipped out of big-league camp with Opening Day just four days away. The 33-year-old righty has 341 career MLB appearances to his name and 67 saves, but he's coming off a rough 2021 campaign split between the Dodgers and Atlanta in which he saw his walk and home-run rates spike considerably. The walk issues persisted this spring, as he issued free passes to two of the six batters he faced in Cactus League play.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Shane Greene: Bumped from 40-man roster
Greene was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Wednesday. The veteran right-hander was picked up by Los Angeles in mid-August and allowed three runs on three hits with a 7:5 K:BB over 6.2 innings during his time with the club. Green posted an 8.47 ERA in 19 appearances with Atlanta earlier in the season before being released.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Shane Greene: Shaky in Dodgers debut
Greene pitched one-third of an inning against the Mets on Sunday, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk. The right-hander hadn't pitched in a big-league contest for over three weeks before making his first appearance with the Dodgers on Sunday. He looked to be rather rusty, throwing only six of 14 pitches for strikes and plunking two of the five batters he faced. Greene was pulled after walking J.D. Davis to force in a run, and he had another run charged to his ledger after departing. He has had a frustrating season to date, posting a 9.35 ERA and 1.90 WHIP across 17.1 innings with Atlanta and Los Angeles.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Shane Greene: Signs with Dodgers
Greene signed with the Dodgers on Tuesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Greene didn't have to wait long to find a new job, signing a contract just three days after getting released by Atlanta. He struggled during his 17 innings for his former team, posting an 8.47 ERA and 1.82 WHIP, but the Dodgers will take a chance on him nonetheless. He shouldn't be completely over the hill, as he's still just 32 years old, and he had a 3.25 ERA and 1.20 WHIP from 2017 to 2020, so it's certainly possible Greene bounces back as a passable relief option. He's expected to join the big-league roster for the upcoming weekend series against the Mets.... See More ... See Less -
Shane Greene: Released after clearing waivers
Atlanta released Greene on Saturday after he cleared waivers, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Atlanta DFA'd the righty Tuesday after he posted an 8.47 ERA in 17 innings this season. Despite his miserable 2021 campaign, Greene is only two years removed from being an All-Star and saving 23 games, so he may get another opportunity with a club in need of bullpen reinforcements.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Shane Greene: Designated for assignment
Greene was designated for assignment Tuesday. Greene never got things going this season after signing in early May, struggling to an 8.47 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in 17 innings of work. He has 66 career saves and posted an ERA below 3.00 in three of the last four seasons, however, so it's possible he gets claimed off waivers.... See More ... See Less
