Borenstein went 1-for-3 with a double and a run in Triple-A Reno's 10-3 loss to El Paso on Friday. He's batting .240 through 25 at-bats this season. Borenstein had a solid spring as he batted .303 with four RBI and seven runs in 33 at bats. Last year between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno, the 25-year-old slugged .289 with 10 homers, 60 RBI, and 48 runs over 103 games. If the outfielder can produce another season with a high average at Triple-A Reno, he could have a shot at being promoted to the big leagues at some point in 2016.
The Diamondbacks have acquired pitcher Joseph Krehbiel and outfielder Zach Borenstein from the Angels for Joe Thatcher. The 21-year-old Krehbiel has a 2.00 ERA over 18 innings in low A ball. Borenstein is hitting .262/.316/.402 while seeing playing time at both Double-A and Triple-A.
Angels outfield prospect Zachary Borenstein and right-handed minor leaguer Joey Kreihbel are the two players heading to Arizona in return for Joe Thatcher and Joey Campana, the Los Angeles Times has reported. The 21-year-old Kreihbel owns a 1.93 ERA in 14 relief appearances at Class A Advanced Inland Empire this season. Borenstein has compiled a .262 mark with seven homers and 50 RBI at the Double-A and Triple-A levels combined.
