Player Outlook
Fantasy managers hoped for the best when Kris Bryant inked a long-term deal with the Rockies, but he has played just 122 games in total over the past two seasons dealing with lower half and hand injuries that has limited him to a .259/.335/.404 line with 15 homers and 45 RBIs in 460 at bats with the club. Bryant simply has not been the same player since peaking in 2019 as he mas missed chunks of time in three of the past four seasons around moments of productivity. He has dealt with foot, heel, and back injuries that forced him to DH more frequently, but he thankfully retains his outfield eligibility for drafts as he gutted through 46 games in right field last season. Coors Field can obviously help players age gracefully as we have seen with Charlie Blackmon but do not make the same mistake the Rockies did and overpay for these services. Bryant is not hitting 30 homers again and he is likely done stealing bases, even in this new world order.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: No baseball work yet

Rockies manager Bud Black said Tuesday that Bryant (back) is not participating in baseball activities and won't be reinstated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Wednesday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. There apparently isn't much concern about the back strain being a serious issue since Bryant hasn't been sent for medical imaging, but the lower-back strain will still keep him sidelined for the near future. The 32-year-old doesn't have an official timeline for his return and should be considered out indefinitely until he resumes baseball activities.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Lands on IL with lower-back strain

The Rockies placed Bryant on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a low back strain. The Rockies gave Bryant a few days to recover from the back issue with the hope that he could avoid the IL, but the organization ultimately decided that he required some more down time. Because the IL move is retroactive to Sunday, Bryant will be eligible for activation on April 24. However, there's no word yet as to whether he'll have a chance to be ready at that time. Sean Bouchard was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Bryant's spot on the 26-man active roster.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Remains out of lineup

Bryant (back/ribs) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies. It's the third straight start Bryant has missed after he had to be removed from Saturday's game versus the Blue Jays due to soreness in his right ribcage and back. The Rockies will roll with Charlie Blackmon at designated hitter, Elehuris Montero at first base and Michael Toglia in right field.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Held out again Monday

Bryant (back/ribs) remained out of the lineup for Monday's game in Philadelphia. Bryant had to be lifted from Saturday's game versus the Blue Jays due to soreness in his right ribcage and back and he's now missed a second straight start. He is considered day-to-day. Elehuris Montero will be at first base, Michael Toglia is in right field and Charlie Blackmon will be at designated hitter.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Not starting Sunday

Bryant (back/ribs) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Bryant was removed in the fourth inning of Saturday's 5-3 loss after experiencing soreness in his right ribs and back, but at this stage, Rockies manager Bud Black isn't expecting the 32-year-old to miss much time, according to the Associated Press. The four-time All-Star's injury stems from when he twisted around and crashed into the outfield wall after making a catch on a deep drive off the bat of Vladimir Guerrero in the first inning. Bryant was able to stay in the game initially and doubled in his at-bat in the second inning, but he struck out in his next at-bat in the fourth inning and was pulled in the bottom of the frame when his back stiffened up. Consider Bryant day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener in Philadelphia.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Dealing with back issues

Bryant left Saturday's game against Toronto due to back tightness, Kelsey Wingert-Linch of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports. Bryant's back reportedly tightened up on him after he collided with the outfield wall while making a catch in the first inning of Saturday's contest. He played a few more innings afterward but had to come out of the game in the fourth inning. The severity of his back injury remains unknown, but he should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Exits early Saturday

Bryant was removed early from Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Bryant crashed into the outfield wall while making a catch during the first inning, but he wasn't pulled from the game until the fourth. It's unclear at the moment if his removal had anything to do with his collision, but the Rockies should offer more information in the near future. In the meantime, Michael Toglia will fill in as Colorado's right fielder.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Drives in two

Bryant went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI on Friday against the Blue Jays. Bryant managed his second multi-hit performance of the season, with the highlight being a two-run double in the fourth frame. That marked his second extra-base hit across 47 plate appearances to begin the campaign, good for just a .075 ISO.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Back in lineup at DH

Bryant (back) will serve as the Rockies' designated hitter and cleanup batter in Sunday's game against the Rays. Bryant was held out of action for Saturday's 8-6 loss to Tampa Bay while tending to lower-back stiffness, but he feels well enough to return to action for the series finale, albeit in a non-defensive role. Michael Toglia will draw the start at first base Sunday, but expect Bryant to resume playing his normal position within the next few days, assuming the back issue doesn't crop up again.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Battling back stiffness

Bryant isn't in the lineup Saturday versus the Rays due to lower-back stiffness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Bryant has a history of back issues in his career, so the Rockies will play it safe and hold him out until his condition improves. Michael Toglia will cover right field while the former MVP sits and could see increased playing time if Bryant's injury ends up costing him multiple games.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Gets breather Saturday

Bryant isn't in the Rockies' lineup for Saturday's contest against Tampa Bay, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Bryant's two-run homer was the only hit he recorded in five at-bats during Friday's win, and he'll get a day off for the second game of the series Saturday. His absence will give Michael Toglia a chance to start in right field while batting eighth.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Tallies first homer

Bryant went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Friday against the Rays. Bryant collected his first two hits of the season Wednesday and followed that up with his first homer in the eighth inning Friday. While he seems to be rounding into form at the dish, he did strike out twice Friday and has multiple punchouts in four of seven contests.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Finally breaks through

Bryant went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Cubs. Bryant entered the game hitless through 20 plate appearances -- he had reached base four times -- but broke through with an RBI single in the sixth inning Wednesday. Even with the positive performance, he has a 40 percent strikeout rate on the season. Bryant should have the chance to improve his production as the Rockies are set to begin a six-game homestand that begins on Friday.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Hitless through four starts

Bryant went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Monday against the Cubs. Bryant has been in Colorado's lineup in four of five games to begin the season, batting either second or third. He's gotten off to a tough start, as he's hitless through 16 plate appearances while striking out eight times. The Rockies will begin a home series Friday against the Rays, which may offer Bryant the chance to get on track.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Not in Sunday's lineup

Bryant is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. Bryant started the first three games of the season but will receive Sunday off after going 0-for-10 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and seven strikeouts. Michael Toglia will man first base and bat sixth in the series finale versus Arizona.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Projected to hit second

Bryant is projected to hit second in the Rockies' lineup during the regular season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Bryant hasn't made much of an impact since joining Colorado, as he's managed to play only 122 games combined across two seasons. However, he's now fully healthy and is expected to serve as the team's regular first baseman. While it may be a stretch to expect another 30 home-run season, Bryant should get on base consistently and score plenty of runs.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Will be regular first baseman

Bryant is expected to be the Rockies' everyday first baseman in 2024, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Saunders notes that Bryant will also see starts at designated hitter and could play some right field, as well, but the plan is to make him the regular first baseman. Bryant has made only 30 starts at first base in his major-league career, but seven of those came in September last season after he returned from one of his many injuries. The 32-year-old contends that he's healthy now and hopefully playing a less demanding position will help keep him that way. Bryant has played in just 32 percent of the Rockies' games during his two seasons in Colorado because of a multitude of injuries.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Returns to lineup

Bryant (illness) will bat cleanup and play first base Saturday against the Twins, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. An illness had kept Bryant off the field for the previous three days, but he'll get the chance to play another game or two before the end of the regular season. Even if he appears in both of Colorado's remaining contests, he'll reach just 80 games on the season, meaning he won't have appeared in even half of the Rockies' games in either of the first two years of his seven-year, $182 million deal.

  • Rockies' Kris Bryant: Available off bench

Rockies manager Bud Black said Bryant (illness) is feeling better and will be available off the Rockies' bench Friday against Minnesota, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Black added that Bryant will return to the starting lineup for Colorado's penultimate game Saturday. The former NL MVP is slashing just .180/.212/.360 across 52 plate appearances since returning from the injured list Sept. 11.
