Arruebarrena was suspended for the remainder of the 2016 season due to repeated failures to comply with the terms in his contract, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports. This is the second such instance for Arruebarrena in the past year, although last time he was able to settle a grievance and return after missing only a month. We'll see if the shortstop can work his way out of this suspension, although this much trouble with the Dodgers organization in addition to the missed game time doesn't bode well for his standing in the organization going forward.
Arruebarrena is batting just .170 with 19 strikeouts in 47 at-bats for Double-A Tulsa. If there's any good news, it's that three of Arruebarrena's eight hits have gone for home runs. Still, he's not making his way back to the big leagues any time soon.
Cuban infielder Erisbel Arruebarrena has been suspended indefinitely by the Dodgers. Arruebarrena, who was signed five year, $25 million contract prior to the 2014 season, has yet to play at any level this season. He did have 41 at-bats with the Dodgers last season, collecting eight hits in the process. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman confirmed that Arruebarrena was placed on the suspended list, and the team released a statement indicating that Arruebarrena repeatedly failed to comply with his contract as the reason for the suspension, according to TrueBlueLA.com. In January, the Dodgers designated Arruebarrena for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster. He cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A, though he has not played a game yet.
The Dodgers have optioned catcher Austin Barnes to Triple-A Oklahoma City, the team announced. Barnes hit .182 this spring with two hits in 11 at-bats. He also stole four bases. The team has also re-assigned infielders O'Koyea Dickson and Erisbel Arruebarrena to their minor league camp. Dickson hit .357 with two home runs and three RBI in 11 games this spring. Arruebarrena hit just .143 with three strikeouts.
Dodgers infielder Erisbel Arruebarrena has cleared waivers on Friday, the team announced. Arruebarrena was designated for assignment by the club in late December. He's set to make $16 million over the next four seasons. Arruebarrena received 41 at-bats in the majors last year, hitting .195.
