    • Reed Johnson: Released by the Nationals
      By RotoWire Staff

Johnson was released by the Nationals on Sunday. Johnson had been in the mix for one of the final bench spots in Washington, and when he didn't make the cut, the Nationals chose to grant him his outright release rather than send him to the minors. He'll look to catch on with another organization in need of outfield depth.

    • Johnson is still in the mix for the final spot on the Nationals' bench. He's hit an underwhelming .276/.371/.310 in 29 at-bats this spring, but Johnson would give the Nats a veteran right-handed pinch-hitter as well as extra depth in the outfielder behind Michael Taylor. Whoever wins the job might only hold onto it until the club decides to call up Trea Turner, however.

    • Nationals' Reed Johnson: Signs with Nationals
      By RotoWire Staff

Johnson signed a minor league deal with the Nationals on Monday. Johnson spent the 2015 season with the Nationals, but injuries limited him to just 17 games. He'll be 39 years old by the time the 2016 rolls around and will likely have to earn a roster spot in spring training.

    • In the ultimate better-late-than-ever move, the Nationals reinstated outfielder Reed Johnson from the 60-day disabled list Saturday. Johnson has been out since late April because of foot and oblique issues, but it appears he'll finally rejoin the club. He probably won't see much playing time over the last week of the season outside of pinch-hitting. He managed four hits in 18 at-bats before going down.

    • Outfielder Reed Johnson, who was on a rehab assignment with the Nationals' Class A team due to a foot injury, will be sidelined again after injuring his oblique while sneezing, per MASN Sports. Johnson, who was nearing a potential return to the Nationals, was hit by a pitch in his side, followed that up with violent sneeze and wound up injuring his oblique, much to the amazement of Washington manager Matt Williams. "Strange happenings," Williams said. "He got hit in the ribs, and then sneezed and pulled an oblique in the same area. I don't know what it was. But he actually sneezed and he's got an oblique strain. So he's been taken back off of a rehab and we're dealing with that. I've never ... there have been a lot of strange things." Johnson played 12 games for the Nationals before going on the DL. He was 5-for-16 in five games with Class A Potomac.
