An earlier report Sunday said that the team was considering going with a six-man rotation, and it's possible that could still come to pass, with Elias making frequent trips to and from the active roster. For now, it appears Taijuan Walker will serve as the team's fifth starter. The Mariners also reassigned the following eight players to minor-league camp Sunday: catcher John Baker, outfielder Endy Chavez, infielders Shawn O'Malley and Carlos Rivero and pitchers Mark Lowe, Jordan Pries, Kevin Correia and Joe Saunders .

      The Mariners agreed to a minor-league deal with 33-year-old LHP Joe Saunders, according to MLB.com's Greg Johns. The contract includes an invitation to Major League camp, and Mariners clubhouse staff were setting up a locker for Saunders on Friday morning. Saunders was 0-5 with a 6.70 ERA last season, splitting the year between the Rangers and Orioles, and also between starting and the bullpen. He returns to the Mariners after going 11-16 with a 5.26 ERA in 32 starts in 2013. He's expected to contribute out of the bullpen, if he makes the team.
