The White Sox announced several minor-league roster moves prior to Monday's series opener against the Athletics in Oakland, ESPN Chicago reports. The team released left-hander David Purcey and infielder Alex Liddi. Right-hander Maikel Cleto was also outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte.
The White Sox reassigned six players to minor-league camp Friday, including catcher Hector Gimenez, infielders Micah Johnson and Alex Liddi, outfielder Blake Tekotte and pitchers Zach Putnam and David Purcey.
The White Sox announced Tuesday they handed out 21 non-roster invites to spring training. The list was headlined by prospects Micah Johnson and Chris Beck, who are considered among the White Sox's top 10 prospects by Baseball America. The 11 pitchers invited to spring training were Beck, Dylan Axelrod, Chris Bassitt, Parker Frazier, Brian Omogrosso, Omar Poveda, David Purcey, Zach Putnam, Mauricio Robles and Scott Snodgress. The remaining spring invites included three catchers -- Hector Gimenez, Miguel Gonzalez, Kevan Smith -- four infielders -- Johnson, Alex Liddi, Mike McDade, Andy Wilkins -- and three outfielders -- Denis Phipps, Blake Tekotte, Keenyn Walker.
The White Sox have re-signed pitcher David Purcey to a minor-league deal. Purcey went 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 23:17 K:BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings but dealt with a strained UCL that ended his season in late September.
In a move to make room for newly signed first baseman Jose Abreu, the White Sox sent pitcher David Purcey outright to Triple-A Charlotte Friday. Purcey had his season cut short because of a strained ulnar collateral ligament. He owned a 2.13 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP over 25 1/3 innings pitched this season.
