    Player Outlook

When the Astros signed Scott Feldman to a three-year deal, he was being counted on to be an integral part of their rotation. Now as he is about to enter the final year of that contract, he has been overshadowed by younger pitchers, and more prospects could be on the way. He may not be ready for spring training due to his ongoing recovery from a shoulder sprain, but even if he is, Feldman is not a lock to make the rotation. Among the most contact-prone pitchers in the majors, Feldman is merely a late-round AL-only option.

    Player News
    • Feldman (shoulder) has been cleared to start his regular offseason program after a recent medical evaluation Monday, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports. This is good news for Feldman, who missed the last few weeks of the 2015 season with a right shoulder sprain. He will partake in a normal offseason program with some additional shoulder strengthening. Feldman hopes to be ready for the beginning of spring training and is likely to be the number five starter for the Astros in 2016.
