    • Shaun Marcum: Retires from baseball
      By RotoWire Staff

Marcum has retired from baseball. The 35-year-old pitcher is calling it quits after a nine-year major league career and will instead coach for the baseball team at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Over his major league career, Marcum compiled a respectable 3.93 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 1,030 innings.

    • Indians veteran right-hander Shaun Marcum has cleared waivers and will return to Triple-A Columbus, MLB.com has reported. Marcum proved inconsistent during his six-start stint with Cleveland. He followed an outing in which he pitched seven shutout innings by allowing six runs in two innings to the Cubs, motivating the Indians to designate him for assignment with a 3-2 mark and 5.40 ERA.

    • A day after a poor outing against the Cubs, the Indians removed starting pitcher Shaun Marcum from the roster, as he was designated for assignment Thursday. Marcum only lasted two innings during Wednesday's 17-0 loss. He allowed six runs on six hits and one walk. The veteran right-hander tossed seven scoreless innings in his previous start. He went 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA in seven outings (six starts) for Cleveland.

    • Indians starter Shaun Marcum got pummeled against the Cubs on Wednesday. The veteran right-hander gave up six runs on six hits in just two innings of work, with all six runs coming in the second inning. He walked one and had no strikeouts. In that second frame, Marcum gave up a pair of two-run home runs to each Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell. It was just the beginning of the offensive onslaught for the Cubs, as they wound up winning 17-0 on Wednesday. The nightmare outing for Marcum breaks a string of three straight starts of allowing three or fewer runs. He'll look to turn things around in his next start, scheduled for Monday at home against the Tigers.

    • Indians starting pitcher Shaun Marcum had arguably his finest start of the season during Thursday's 6-0 win against the Mariners. Although, Thursday's outing might have passed for one of the best in his career as well. Marcum (3-1) was unhittable for 4 1/3 innings Thursday. He didn't allow his first hit until Mark Trumbo's single with one out in the fifth inning. The only other hit Marcum allowed was a leadoff douvle to Robinson Cano in the seventh inning. Marcum did not walk a batter and struck out five. He did hit one batter and threw 68 of 106 pitches for strikes. ''It was nice to go out there and be able to locate the ball and take what I've been doing between starts and actually have it happen,'' Marcum said, per the Associated Press. The right-hander will be back on the mound Tuesday against the Cubs.
