    • Jonathan Sanchez released by Cubs

      The career of former promising left-hander Jonathan Sanchez has continued on the wrong path. Sanchez has been released by the Cubs from their minor league system. Sanchez has struggled greatly with his control throughout his career, but his problem became more pronounced with time. He pitched in just one game for Triple-A Iowa this season and gave up five earned runs on three walks in 2/3 of an inning for an unfortunate ERA of 67.51.

    • The Cubs have signed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez to a minor-league deal that includes incentives if he makes the major-league roster, the Chicago Tribune reports. Sanchez allowed 18 earned runs in 13 2/3 innings with the Pirates last season while also going 7-3 with a 5.13 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 79:42 K:BB ratio in 66 2/3 innings over 14 starts with Triple-A Albuquerque.

      The Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs are looking into signing free agent pitcher Jonathan Sanchez. They would look to him to fill a relief role, though other teams are reportedly interested in the lefty as a starter. Sanchez began last season with the Pirates, but was released after posting an 11.85 ERA over four starts and a relief appearance. He moved on to pitch for the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque.

      Dodgers pitcher Jonathan Sanchez will not opt out of his deal with the team. Sanchez signed in mid-May, but was eligible to opt-out July 1. Sanchez has only been able to make two starts in the minors. He has a 6.75 ERA in eight innings. Walks continue to plague Sanchez. He's given up five walks in his eight innings.
