Angels' Yunel Escobar: To be traded to Angels

The Angels have acquired Escobar via a trade with the Nationals on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. Escobar is coming off a bit of a renaissance in Washington in 2015, when he hit .314/.375/.415 after languishing as an average hitter in his previous three seasons. He'll bring versatility to the Angels infield given his ability to play second or third base. The clubs have yet to confirm the deal, but Mike DiGionvanna of the Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Angels will send right-handed reliever Trevor Gott to the Nationals in return for Escobar.

Nationals SS Yunel Escobar returns to lineup Thursday

Nationals shortstop Yunel Escobar (hamstring) is in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins, but manager Matt Williams will be cautious with him, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. Escobar will start at third base as he usually does, but it appears Williams could pull him if he notices any issues, and he may simply decide to remove him from the game early at some point. Either way, don't necessarily expect Escobar to play a full nine innings Thursday even though he will be on the field for the first pitch.
