      Rockies' Kyle Kendrick, Boone Logan activated from DL Tuesday

      The Rockies have reinstated a pair of pitchers from the disabled list. Starter Kyle Kendrick and reliever Boone Logan were activated on Tuesday, as the rosters expanded. Kendrick was placed on the DL with right shoulder inflammation earlier this month. He is scheduled to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks. Logan has been sidelined since Aug. 12 with elbow inflammation. The veteran left-hander has a 4.75 ERA in 48 relief appearances this season.

      The Rockies placed pitcher Boone Logan on the 15-day disabled list on Friday, retroactive to August 12, per the Denver Post. Logan has left-elbow inflammation, a recurrence of the same problem that left him out for significant time last year.

      Rockies left-handed pitcher Boone Logan missed much of 2014 season with elbow issues but said Thursday that his elbow is feeling better than it has "in a long, long time," the Denver Post reports. "I'm always going to feel my elbow a bit when I pitch, but this is the best it's felt in a long, long time," Logan said. Logan gave up his first run of the season Wednesday but has managed to deliver a 1.80 ERA in five innings while striking out six and walking just one.

      Rockies' LaTroy Hawkins removed from closer role

      Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Monday that pitcher LaTroy Hawkins will get "a break" from closing duties, the Denver Post reports. "We have decided to give 'Hawk a break in that role," manager Walt Weiss said before Monday's game. "We're just trying to give him a little bit of a breather for the time being." Rafael Betancourt will be in line to get a save opportunity Monday if needed, but the team could also use Adam Ottavino, John Axford or Boone Logan in the role. Ottavino, who the manager cited specifically as one player who would be used in the role, is likely unavailable Monday after pitching Saturday and Sunday but has racked up seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and one walk. Axford was signed this offseason as potential insurance in the ninth inning, but he's away from the team due to a family medical emergency. Logan has tossed three perfect innings in three appearaces.

      Rockies' Boone Logan pain free for first time in two years

      Rockies pitcher Boone Logan's elbow feels healthy for the first time since he developed bone spurs during 2013. Logan had surgery to remove the spurs following the season, but the elbow sent him to the disabled list three times in 2014. He had a fourth trip to the DL with a digestive problem. Finally, the elbow has recovered fully. "I haven't felt this good in, shoot, I don't know how long," Logan said, per "My attitude has changed. My mind's more clear. In life, I'm a lot happier, that's for sure." Logan had a 1.04 ERA for the Rockies this spring.

      Rockies' Boone Logan to serve as primary setup man

      Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Saturday that pitcher Boone Logan will serve as the team's primary setup man in the eighth inning this season, the Denver Post reports. Logan shined during spring training, allowing just one earned run in 8 2/3 innings while racking up 13 strikeouts and walking just one batter. He struggled last season in his first year with the Rockies, delivering a 6.84 ERA and 32:11 K:BB ratio in 25 innings. Closer LaTroy Hawkins struggled this spring but will remain in the ninth-inning role to begin the season.

      Rockies reliever Boone Logan, who underwent surgery in September to shave a bone spur in the elbow, said his arm will never be 100 percent, per However, he has been throwing since December and said he sees far greater progress this spring than last spring, when he was also coming off elbow surgery. "It was something I was reminded of every second of the day, from when I got up to when I went to sleep, waking up in the middle of the night last year," Logan said. "The difference is I'm coming to spring and competing again. I feel I have something to prove."
