    The Phillies have reassigned third baseman Maikel Franco, outfielder Clete Thomas and right-hander Sean O'Sullivan to minor league camp. Franco entered camp competing with Cody Asche for the starting job, but was outplayed and hit under .200 in exhibition play to punch his ticket to the minors.

    Phillies sign four to minor-league deals

    The Phillies have signed outfielders Clete Thomas and Leandro Castro and pitchers Shawn Camp and Cesar Jimenez to minor-league deals. Thomas hit .214/.290/.307 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 290 at-bats with the Twins in 2013. Castro hit .256/.280/.368 with eight home runs, 55 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 438 at-bats with Triple-A Lehigh Valley last season. Camp made 26 appearanecs with the Cubs last season, going 1-1 with a 7.04 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 13:9 K:BB ratio in 23 innings. Jimenez made 19 appearances with the Phillies in 2013, going 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB ratio in 17 innings.

    Twins remove four from 40-man roster

    The Twins outrighted outfielder Clete Thomas and pitchers Cole De Vries, Josh Roenicke and Shairon Martis off the 40-man roster Wednesday. Thomas hit .214/.290/.307 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 290 at-bats with the Twins this season. De Vries went 0-2 and gave up 18 earned runs in 15 innings over four appearances (two starts) with the major-league team. Roenicke went 3-1 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 45:36 K:BB ratio in 62 innings over 63 appearances with the Twins. Martis made six relief appearances with the Twins, posting a 5.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB ratio in 9 2/3 innings while allowing three home runs on six hits.

    Twins outfielder Clete Thomas had a nice game Wednesday during a 9-8 loss against Cleveland in extra innings. Thomas went 3 for 6 on the game. The center fielder doubled for the 12th time this season and scored twice. He's batting .225 for the season. The 29-year-old Thomas has four doubles in his last six games. He's gone 4 for 9 over his last two starts in back-to-back contests for Minnesota.

    Clete Thomas goes deep for Twins

    Twins leadoff batter Clete Thomas had a nice game Friday in a 9-3 loss to the Royals. Thomas smacked his second home run of the season. The center fielder went 2 for 5 in the game with two strikeouts, but he went deep off James Shields in the fifth inning. He added a single and is batting .271. Thomas has only been with the Twins since early June and has gone 18 for 57 (.316) with two homers and five RBI over his last 15 games.

    Twins outfielder Clete Thomas did some damage Wednesday in a win over the Phillies, driving in two runs among four hits. Thomas went 4 for 4 with an RBI double to deep right-center field in the fourth inning. He added another RBI double in the eighth and scored later in the frame as the Twins took the lead for good. Thomas is batting .294 thus far after only 17 at-bats. He had just one hit before Wednesday.
