      Justin Ruggiano: Elects free agency

Ruggiano elected free agency Friday, Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles reports. Ruggiano was actually playing well after joining the Dodgers, slashing .291/.350/.618 in 21 games following a trade on the last day of August, but opted for free agency rather than accepting a demotion to Triple-A. Though the 33-year-old ended the season strong, he'll likely start the season as an extra outfielder or a depth piece wherever he lands.

Dodgers' Justin Ruggiano: Outrighted from 40-man roster

Ruggiano was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City Thursday. Ruggiano was a terrific addition for the Dodgers near the end of the season as the 33-year-old slashed a .291/.350/.618 in 55 at-bats, mainly against left-handed pitching. He'll likely serve as organizational depth in the outfield if he chooses to accept his demotion, but he will more than likely opt to become a free agent this offseason instead.

Dodgers OF Justin Ruggiano gets two hits in win Friday

Dodgers outfielder Justin Ruggiano went 2 for 3 with an RBI, a steal and a run scored in a 6-2 win over Pittsburgh on Friday. Ruggiano has been ridiculous since being acquired from the Mariners, as he is hitting .333 with three homers, four doubles, 10 RBI and seven runs scored in seven starts and 11 total appearances. He is also suddenly fantasy relevant, as he bats atop one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball against southpaws.

Dodgers OF Justin Ruggiano collects triple Wednesday

Dodgers outfielder Justin Ruggiano went 1 for 4 with a triple in a 2-0 win over the Rockies on Wednesday. Ruggiano is just two for his last 11, but he's been ridiculous in a Dodger uniform aside from that. After an 0-for-3 debut, Ruggiano went 8 for 16 over his next seven games with three homers, three doubles, 10 RBI and six runs scored. After not finding a role with the Mariners, Ruggiano will be in the lineup every day against lefties for a much better team in Los Angeles.

Dodgers add RP Joe Wieland, OF Justin Ruggiano to roster

The Dodgers wasted no time placing just-acquired outfielder Justin Ruggiano on their roster after trading for him Tuesday. They have also recalled Joe Wieland from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Wieland pitched in just one game for the Dodgers earlier in the year and has a mere 10 appearances in the big leagues since 2012.

Mariners OF Justin Ruggiano designated for assignment Thursday

The Mariners have designated outfielder Justin Ruggiano for assignment, the team announced on Thursday. Ruggiano seemingly became expendable following Wednesday's acquisition of Mark Trumbo from the Diamondbacks. Ruggiano received 81 plate appearances in 2015, batting .214/.321/.357 with two home runs and three RBI. The move opens up a roster spot for catcher Jesus Sucre who was recalled from Triple-A on Thursday. "Those things are never easy," manager Lloyd McClendon said, per MLB.com. "It was a very difficult decision, but you've got to have a backup catcher and you can only carry 25, so somebody had to go. Obviously there was going to be a tremendous lack of playing time for whoever that guy was. Hopefully this gives him the opportunity to catch on with somebody else."
