      Twins' Trevor Plouffe: Avoids arbitration

Plouffe and the Twins agreed to terms on a one-year, $7.25 million deal Monday, avoiding arbitration, Rhett Bollinger of reports. Plouffe drove in 86 runs and hit .244 last season, down from the career-best .258 mark he posted in 2014. He figures to return in a similar role in 2016, though with Miguel Sano expected to play more regularly in the field, Plouffe may face competition at third base. The 29-year-old also played sparingly at first base last season, so that may be an option, but GM Terry Ryan said back in October that he does not anticipate Plouffe moving to the outfield, where he hasn't played since 2012.

Twins GM says Trevor Plouffe is unlikely to play in outfield

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said third baseman Trevor Plouffe is unlikely to play in the outfield, reports. That wouldn't be a problem except Ryan also stated he expects Miguel Sano to play regularly in the field, meaning the Twins could have a logjam at the hot corner. It seems like Plouffe could be a player to watch this offseason, as the Twins might look to move their 29-year-old third baseman, if the right deal arises.

Twins slumping 3B Trevor Plouffe benched for Sunday game

Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe is out of the lineup Sunday against Detroit, per LaVelle E. Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Plouffe hasn't had a day off since Sept. 9, so the third baseman was likely overdue. But it does come as a bit of a surprise considering Minnesota is in the midst of a heated playoff race. Plouffe is hitless in five of his last six games, which might better explain his absence.
