Phillies' Will Venable: Candidate for promotion

Venable is a candidate to be promoted from the minors if the Phillies don't start getting some production from their corner outfielders, Jeff Neiburg of CSN Philadelphia reports. Cedric Hunter and Peter Bourjos have provided little offensively thus far. Venable is hitting .150 (3-for-20) with a double in six games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. David Lough and Darnell Sweeney are also candidates for a promotion if the Phillies decide to make a move.

Phillies' Will Venable: Assigned to minor league camp

Venable was assigned to minor league camp Friday, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports. Venable posted a paltry .462 OPS this spring, and was beaten out for a roster spot by Cedric Hunter. Venable said earlier in the week he would be willing to remain with the Phillies even if he did not break camp with the big club, so his season will likely begin with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Phillies' Will Venable: Willing to go to Triple-A

Venable said he is willing to go to Triple-A if he does not earn a roster spot with the Phillies, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports. Phillies' Will Venable: Signs minor league contract with Phillies on Monday

Venable signed a minor league contract with the Phillies on Monday that includes an invitation to major league spring training, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. After failing to make the Indians 25-man roster, Venable will try again with the rebuilding Phillies. Philadelphia has been marred with outfield injuries this spring, making Venable a nice fit for them. If he makes the Opening Day roster, there's a good chance that he could platoon with Rule 5 pick Tyler Goeddel.

      Will Venable: Granted release Sunday

Venable was informed Sunday that he wouldn't make the Indians' 25-man roster and has been granted his release, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports. The superior Cactus League performance of Tyler Naquin likely ended Venable's bid for a roster spot, as both players are lefty-hitting center fielders. The 33-year-old Venable could still attract interest as a platoon outfielder for another organization.

Indians' Will Venable: Signs minor league deal with Cleveland

Venable signed a minor league deal with the Indians on Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Venable, who finished last season with the Rangers, was thought to be a potential replacement for the injured Josh Hamilton in Texas, but he'll instead head to Cleveland to join GM Mike Chernoff, who was a college teammate at Princeton. The 33-year-old is coming off of a struggle-filled end to 2015, as he hit just .182 with 21 strikeouts in 82 plate appearances for the Rangers across 37 games. Venable put up a .258/.318/.378 slash line in 98 games for the Padres, however, and his career .251 average likely provides him a good chance to crack Cleveland's 25-man, Opening Day roster.
