    Angels cut five players Monday

    The Angels made five cuts Monday, with pitcher Michael Roth optioned to Triple-A and pitchers Justin Thomas, Jarrett Grube, Michael Morin and Mark Sappington being re-assigned to minor-league camp, MLB.com reports. Roth pitched one scoreless inning this spring, while Thomas threw two scoreless innings. Grube surrendered two earned runs in four innings, and Morin gave up one earned run in two innings. Sappington retired the only batter he faced in his lone appearance.

    Justin Thomas signs minors deal with Angels

    The Oakland Athletics released pitcher Justin Thomas from Triple-A Sacramento Monday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Thomas likely exercised an out clause in his contract. The left-hander has posted a 4.48 ERA over 16 starts with Sacramento. Thomas has made 31 appearances in the majors. The 29-year-old last pitched for the Yankees in 2012. He has a 6.93 ERA for his career.
