Diamondbacks' Brad Ziegler: Club option exercised by Diamondbacks

Ziegler will return to the Diamondbacks after the team picked up his $5.5 million club option for 2016, Zach Buchanan of the Arizona Republic reports. Ziegler recorded a career-high 30 saves to go along with a sterling 1.85 ERA in 68 innings with the team this season, so this move was expected. The Diamondbacks could bring in a closer this season, thus bumping the 36-year-old back into his customary set-up role, but that decision will likely come later in the offseason.

Diamondbacks' Brad Ziegler records 27th consecutive save

Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler picked up his 29th save Sunday in a win over the Padres, pitching a clean ninth inning. This was Ziegler's fifth save in his last six outings, and the 27th consecutive save he has converted successfully dating back to May 27. With only two blown saves on the season, Ziegler has quietly been one of the games most effective closers since taking over the role early in the season. For Fantasy purposes, however, the lack of strikeouts (just 34 in 66 innings) does limit his value compared to the elite relievers in the game.

Diamondbacks closer Brad Ziegler finishes off Padres on Friday

Diamondbacks closer Brad Ziegler allowed a hit in a clean ninth inning to record his 28th save in a win over the Padres on Friday. Ziegler yielded a leadoff single, but followed with two grounders and a flyball to end the game. He has a 1.94 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 64 appearances this year. For anyone who picked him up off waivers early in the season, you're surely reaping the rewards. The one thing Ziegler could improve on are the strikeouts, as he has just 34 in 65 innings.

Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler picks up save Friday

Diamondbacks pitcher Brad Ziegler allowed a hit and struck out two batters en route to his 27th save in a 2-0 win over the Giants on Friday. Ziegler has been one of the waiver wire adds of the season as he continues to get it done, completing 27 of 29 save opportunities this year. Since allowing seven runs at the end of August in two bad outings, Ziegler has now gone five straight innings without allowing a run. The only statistic missing for Ziegler are the strikeouts, as he has just 34 in 63 innings this season. With that said, his 2.00 ERA and 0.95 WHIP are elite for any closer.

Diamondbacks nearly set to pick up option on RP Brad Ziegler

Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart has confirmed that his team plans on picking up the 2016 option for $5.5 million on closer Brad Ziegler. "Assuming he is healthy and continues down the path he's on right now, I don't see why we would not," Stewart told the Arizona Republic. The 35-year-old Ziegler took over the closer role in late May and, despite two horrible appearances in late August, is 25 of 27 in save opportunities.

Diamondbacks closer Brad Ziegler pounded by Athletics

Diamondbacks closer Brad Ziegler was due for a dud. And duds often occur in non-save situations. Ziegler arrived in a tie game Sunday against Oakland and left with a 7-4 deficit. He gave up three runs on six hits in just one inning. He loaded the bases in the 10th, but slithered out of the jam with a double play and groundout. He had no such fortune in the 11th, when three two-out singles and a hit-by-pitch resulted in his second loss of the season. His ERA still sits at a fine 1.88.
