      Pirates SS Jordy Mercer sitting out for Game 2 of doubleheader

      Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cubs. Pedro Florimon will take over at shortstop in place of Mercer, who went 0-for-4 in Game 1 to drop his OPS below .600 for the first time since June 27. As a reward, he was designated for assignment on Wednesday. Florimon went 2 for 19 in 2015, his first season with the Pirates. The move clears a space for reliever Josh Wall who was added to the roster on Wednesday. The Pirates were in need of a fresh bullpen arm following Tuesday's marathon affair.

      The Pirates recalled infielder Pedro Florimon from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. Florimon, who was acquired in the offseason, will be making his season debut for the Pirates on Wednesday, as he is batting ninth and starting at shortstop against the Royals. The light-hitting infielder was batting .254 with two homers and 18 RBI at Triple-A. He is taking the roster spot of Wilfredo Boscan who was optioned to Indianapolis on Wednesday.
