      The Mets have signed first baseman Brock Peterson to a minor league contract and assigned him to Double-A Binghamton, per ESPN. He is in the lineup Friday. The 31-year-old Peterson played briefly for St. Louis in 2013. He has since been in the Nationals, Dodgers and Twins organizations.

      Nationals demote seven to minors

      Veteran reliever Ross Ohlendorf headlines a group of Nationals sent to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. The others are shortstop Zach Walters, catcher Jhonatan Solano and pitcher Christian Garcia. Dispatched to minor league camp were pitcher Manny Delcarmen , first baseman Brock Peterson and second baseman Will Rhymes were optioned to minor league camp. Ohlendorf had experienced back spasms this spring that have limited him to one inning in which he surrendered two runs on four hits.

      The Nationals have signed shortstop Emmanuel Burriss, catcher Mitch Canham and first baseman Brock Peterson to minor-league deals, Baseball America reports. Burriss owns a .243/.304/.269 line in 720 at-bats over five major-league seasons and hit .241/.294/.266 with one home run, 24 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 369 at-bats with Triple-A Louisville last season. Canham hit .261/.360/.381 with two home runs, 26 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 291 at-bats with Double-A Northwest Arkansas while also going 5 for 15 in six appearances with Triple-A Omaha. Peterson went 2 for 26 with the Cardinals last season in his first exposure to the majors while also hitting .296/.364/.531 with 25 home runs and 86 RBI in 456 at-bats with Triple-A Memphis last season.
