    • Prospect Mason demoted by Rays

News: The Rays reassigned RHP Chris Mason to minor league camp.
Analysis: Mason is one of the Rays' slew of pitching prospects. The mere volume of elite talent in front of him will mean he spends most if not all of the season in the minor leagues. Consider him a sleeper if he is going well and gets a shot this year, but he is nothing more than a prospect flier on Draft Day.
    • C. Mason leaves camp for personal reasons

News: Rays SP Chris Mason has left Rays camp to deal with a family emergency, according to the Tampa Tribune. It is not known when he will return.
Analysis: Mason is a nice prospect with the Rays, but he is expected to start the 2008 season in Triple-A. He does have some value in long-term leagues, however.
    • Rays hand out important invites

News: The Rays invited SS Reid Brignac, RHP Wade Davis, RHP Christopher Mason, LHP Jacob McGee and 3B Evan Longoria to spring training.
Analysis: These are some of the best prospects in baseball. Longoria has the third base job to lose, while Brignac will open in the minors, but the shortstop position will merely be kept warm for him. McGee is a hard-throwing lefty, while Davis is a equally promising righty. Mason has a lower ceiling than the others, but he is still a promising long-term keeper prospect in his own right. Track their progress in spring training.
