      Pirates promote RP Deolis Guerra to major-league roster

      The Pirates called up reliever Deolis Guerra from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. His first appearance in a game will be his MLB debut. Guerra is probably most recognized for being included in the 2008 trade that sent Johan Santana from the Twins to the Mets. Unfortunately, Guerra never really hit his stride in the minors until this season. He is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA in 25 relief appearances for Indianapolis.

      The Pirates announced Friday they cut 12 players from major-league camp. They optioned Bobby LaFromboise to Triple-A, while reassigning Deolis Guerra, Gorkys Hernandez, Charlie Leesman, Brad Lincoln, Steve Lombardozzi, Brent Morel, Gustavo Nunez , Deibinson Romero, Jose Tabata, Sebastian Valle and Josh Wall to minor-league camp.

      Twins get closer to finalizing opening day roster

      The Twins made several roster moves Monday, which included releasing veteran reliever Matt Guerrier. The Twins also optioned pitcher Ryan Pressly, pitcher Michael Tonkin and catcher Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester. Lastly, the Twins reassigned six players to minor-league camp. They were Matt Hoffman , Aaron Thomspon, Deolis Guerra, Wilkin Ramirez, Doug Bernier and Deibinson Romero.

      The Twins reassigned pitchers Deolis Guerra, who is dealing with an injury, and Shairon Martis to minor-league camp on Saturday. Going to minor-league camp along with them are catcher Eric Fryer, infielders Chris Colabello and Mark Sobolewski and outfielders Brian Dinkelman and Clete Thomas.       Guerra knocked out until July

      Twins starting pitcher Deolis Guerra is expected to miss the first three months of the regular season after requiring surgery to alleviate a blood clot in his right shoulder, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He is scheduled to have the procedure later this month. The issue was discovered Thursday after the right-hander was removed from Venezuelan's roster for the World Baseball Classic with a possible torn pectoral muscle. The surgery will involve the removal on his first rib on order to give his artery more room and eliminate the blood clot from becoming a recurring issue.

      Yahoo! reports that Twins pitcher Deolis Guerra was removed from Venezuela's World Baseball Classic roster after suffering a strained pectoral muscle. According to, Gurra may have a torn pectoral muscle. At this point, there is no timetable for his absence.
