Reds return ValenzuelaNews: The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Rule 5 draft pick RHP Sergio Valenzuela was sold back to the Braves Monday. Also, RHP Ramon Ramirez was optioned back to Triple-A Louisville. Analysis: Chalk the Valenzuela pick up to a bad move by Cincinnati. He's not guaranteed a shot in the majors this season, and he's not worth picking right now either. The same goes for Ramirez, who will work as a spot starter in the minors for much of '08.
Reds get Valenzuela in Rule-5 draftNews: The Reds selected RHP Sergio Valenzuela from the Braves with the sixth pick in the first round of the Rule-5 draft. Analysis: After being picked in the Rule-5 draft Valenzuela, 23, must remain on the Reds' 25-man roster all season or be offered back to the Braves for cash. The Reds might take a look at him as a potential No. 5 starter, but he would be very high risk for the deepest of NL-only leagues. It is more likely he sticks around in the bullpen, but then he is nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men.
