    • Mariners make slew of spring cuts

News: The Mariners optioned RHP Joe Woerman, 2B Yung Chi Chen and 1B Bryan LaHair to Triple-A Tacoma. Also, they reassigned RHP Phillippe Aumont, RHP Brodie Downs, RHP Stephen Kahn, LHP Robert Rohrbaugh, C Jair Fernandez, C Adam Moore, C Brant Ust, OF Bronson Sardinha and IF Mark Kiger to minor league camp.
Analysis: Aumont is a top pitching prospect, but he could be years from making a Fantasy impact at this point. Ignore all of these guys in all leagues on Draft Day, especially because they don't project to make an impact in Fantasy this season.
    • Rohrbaugh finds mentor in Bedard

News: The Sports Xchange reports Mariners P Robert Rohrbaugh jumped from Double-A to Triple-A Tacoma last year, and before the season was over he was named Tacoma's Pitcher of the Year. He doesn't have a chance to make the rotation right out of spring training, but he has found a mentor of sorts in Erik Bedard, who was acquired in a trade with Baltimore. "I grew up about 50 miles from Baltimore and was a huge Orioles fan," Rohrbaugh said. "I used to watch him pitch. Now we talk about pitching. We talk about lots of things. It's helped me out."
Analysis: Rohrbaugh joined the Mariners' farm system in 2005 after playing his college ball with Clemson. He has made plenty of starts in the minors and has looked good at every stop. However, the Mariners rotation is full and no place for Rohrbaugh. He might get a call-up at some point in 2008 in case a starter goes down with an injury, but Rohrbaugh is nothing more than a long-term AL-only keeper.
