A's cut seven more from spring campNews: The A's sent down right-hander Kevin Cameron, who had a 2.79 ERA in 48 games for the Padres in 2007. A non-roster invitee, Cameron allowed two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings this spring training. Also, Oakland optioned right-hander Ryan Webb and infielders Jeff Baisley and Eric Patterson to Triple-A Fresno on Monday and reassigned right-hander James J. Simmons and infielders Joe Dillon and Sean Doolittle. Analysis: Patterson and Doolittle could have futures in the majors, but all of these players are nothing more than organizational depth at this point. Ignore them in all Fantasy leagues on Draft Day.
A's invite slew of prospects to campNews: The A's invited C Landon Powell, UTL Gregorio Petit, RF Javier Herrera, OF Matt Carson, 2B Corey Wimberly, 2B Jemile Weeks, 1B Sean Doolittle, 1B Chris C. Carter, 3B Joe Dillon, SS Adrian Cardenas, C Josh Donaldson, RP James J. Simmons, RP Tyson Ross, SP Vin Mazzaro, SP Jared Lansford, RP Brett Hunter, SP Andrew Carignan, SP Trevor Cahill, SP Brett Anderson and RP Drew Bailey. Analysis: Many of these guys are top A's prospects who just haven't yet had to be added to the 40-man roster. Cahill and Anderson are two of the best pitching prospects in baseball and are a pretty good bet to significantly impact all Fantasy leagues once they arrive -- perhaps out of spring training as a No. 5 starter, or more likely midseason. Carter, Weeks and Cardenas are elite prospects in their own right. All of these players figure to open the year in the minors, but they are certainly ones to watch. Track their progress in deeper AL-only and long-term keeper leagues.
A's make roster moves SundayNews: The A's optioned RHP Jeff Gray and INF Kevin Melillo to Triple-A Sacramento, and reassigned LHP Troy Cate, RHP James Simmons and IF Casey Rogowski to their minor league camp Sunday. Analysis: All of these players are minor league depth for the A's and need some more seasoning in the minors before they are major league ready. Ignore them in Fantasy leagues until further notice.
