    Owens, Cecchini among Red Sox cuts Thursday

    The Red Sox announced several cuts from major-league camp Thursday, included in the group were top pitching prospect Henry Owens and infielder/outfielder Garin Cecchini. Owens, who is considered the Red Sox's second-best prospect by Baseball America, was reassigned to minor-league camp. Cecchini, who is considered the Red Sox's 10th-best prospect, was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. Manager John Farrell said Cecchini will play third base, first base and left field at Pawtucket. The Red Sox also optioned outfielder Bryce Brentz, pitcher Heath Hembree and pitcher Zeke Spruill to Triple-A, while pitcher Mitchell Boggs was released.

    Mitchell Boggs hooks on with White Sox

    Former Cardinals right-hander and free agent Mitchell Boggs has signed a major league conract with the White Sox, per FOXSports.com. The one-year deal is reportedly worth $1.1 million. After starting his MLB career as a starter, Boggs has worked exclusively out of the bullpen since 2010. He bottomed out in a 2013 season with St. Louis and Colorado in which his ERA syrocketed to 8.10 and he landed in the minors. Boggs, who had never exhibited control problems, walked 20 in 23 innings last year.
