News: The Reds cut 11 players from their major league camp on Monday. SP Sam LeCure, SP Matt Maloney and RP Robert Manuel were optioned to Class AAA Louisville. 3B Juan Francisco was optioned to Class AA Carolina. Sent to minor-league camp for re-assignment were SP James Avery, 1B Wes Bankston, 1B Kevin Barker, 2B Luis Bolivar, SP Ben Jukich, C Chris Kroski, SP Adam Pettyjohn and SP Jordan Smith.
Analysis: Francisco is the only real prospect among this group, and he is still a pretty raw talent who might be a couple of years from making it to the majors. Ignore all the rest of these guys.
  • Reds hand out slew of spring invites

News: The Cincinnati Reds invited 1B Yonder Alonso, 1B Wes Bankston, C Devin Mesoraco, C Chris Kroski, C Craig Tatum, SS Chris Valaika, SS Todd Frazier, 2B Luis Bolivar, OF Drew Stubbs, SP Daryl Thompson, RHP James Avery, RHP Jordan Smith, LHP Adam C. Pettyjohn, RHP Jeff Kennard, RP Ron Flores, LHP Ben Jukich and LHP Pedro Viola and to spring training.
Analysis: Alonso, Valaika and Frazier are elite talents who need more seasoning. Consider them in long-term keeper leagues. Thompson could get time in the team's rotation, but most of the rest of these players are nothing more than organizational depth at this point. Ignore those guys in all Fantasy leagues right now.
