      Reds' Kris Negron to have season-ending shoulder surgery

      Reds infielder/outfielder Kris Negron has been diagnosed with a torn labrum and a fracture in his scapula. He will undergo surgery and next week and will miss the remainder of the 2015 season, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Negron injured himself while making a diving catch in left field on Tuesday. He finishes the season with a .140 average (13 for 93) in 43 games. He made at least one appearance in every defensive position aside from pitcher and catcher.

Phillips was able to pinch hit in Friday's game, but the groin injury he suffered on Tuesday will keep him on the bench for the start of another game.       Kris Negron replaces Marlon Byrd in lineup on Wednesday

      Kris Negron is in the lineup for the Reds' matchup against the Phillies on Wednesday. Negron is batting sixth and starting in left field for manager Bryan Price. Negron is getting the start in left with Marlon Byrd out after being hit by a pitch in his wrist on Tuesday. This will be Negron's first start since May 26. He's hitting just .119 this season, but has provided the Reds with lots of versatility, having played every position except pitcher and catcher this season.

      Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips (toe) out of lineup on Tuesday

      Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday, the team announced. Phillips has started nine consecutive games for Cincinnati and is dealing with a case of turf toe on his left foot. Kris Negron getting the start at second. Phillips is hitting .299 with 18 RBI in 154 at-bats this season. "I think he aggravated it in Cleveland [on Saturday] a little bit," Reds manager Bryan Price said, per "Until you see it on the field, you're not going to hear much about it from Brandon. He's not going to alert anyone about it. He just plans to go out there and play, and then when it becomes noticeable, it becomes one of those situations where we take the lead to make sure he's getting adequate treatment and he's not going to continue to aggravate it. "Today's one of those days where we'll spend a lot more time on treatment than we probably do on ground balls and batting practice."

      Reds' Jay Bruce gets an off day vs. Madison Bumgarner, Giants

      Reds outfielder Jay Bruce was held out of the starting lineup against left-hander Madison Bumgarner and the Giants on Friday, per the team's official website. Kris Negron will bat eighth and play in right field in Bruce's absence. "I've got to find my days for the other guys," manager Bryan Price said, per "I'm hoping to get [Brennan] Boesch in this series and give him a start. I have to pick my times for these guys. Sometimes if it's a tougher match-up, I will do that. It's nothing to read into anything other than a day off [for Bruce] against a tough lefty." Bruce has shown some power, but is off to a slow start at the plate this season. He is hitting .162 (19 for 117) with a double, two triples, five homers and 16 RBI in 34 games.
