    Yankees announce trio of moves for 40-man roster

    The Yankees made a few moves to clear up space on the 40-man roster Tuesday, in advance of a slew of other roster moves. Pitcher Masahiro Tanaka was transferred to the 60-day disabled list, pushing his eligibility to return back another week. However, he is still not assured of a return before the end of the season, so this doesn't change much. Pitcher Matt Daley was released and outfielder Zoilo Almonte was designated for assignment in addition.

    Matt Daley takes loss Tuesday vs. Tigers

    Yankees pitcher Matt Daley was hung with a loss Tuesday, giving up one earned run on one hit in 1 1/3 innings and striking out one in his team's 4-3, 12-inning defeat against the Tigers. Daley (0-1) came up big in the 11th inning, retiring the first batter he faced to end the frame with two runners on base. However, he then surrendered the decisive home run to Tigers catcher Alex Avila in the top of the 12th. Daley owns a 5.02 ERA and 10:6 K:BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings after giving up runs in four straight outings and home runs in three straight appearances.
