Angels' Quintin Berry: Signs minor league deal with Angels

Berry signed a minor league contract with the Angels on Tuesday that includes an invite to spring training. The 31-year-old will get to make his case for a roster spot in the spring, but it seems likely Berry will continue to serve as depth within his new organization. While Berry still has good speed and can play all three outfield positions, his .225/.326/.282 line at the Triple-A level last season will make it hard for any big-league club to justify giving him at-bats.

      Quintin Berry: Elects free agency.

Berry declined an assignment to Triple-A Iowa and elected to become a free agent, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports. Berry has 27 stolen bases in 301 career at-bats in the majors, but stealing bases is about all the 30-year-old outfielder can do. Expect him to sign a minor league contract and fight for a job next spring.

Cubs recall Quintin Berry, Trevor Cahill and Tsuyoshi Wada

The Cubs have recalled outfielder Quintin Berry , right-hander Trevor Cahill and left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday. The Cubs signed Berry to a minor-league deal last week after he was released by the Red Sox. He hit .225 with four home runs and 38 RBI between the Red Sox and Cubs Triple-A affiliates. Likewise, the Cubs inked Cahill to a minor-league contract on Aug. 19 after his release from the Dodgers. Cahill, a former second-round draft pick, is with his third organization this season, though he's only made 15 big-league appearances in 2015. Wada made seven starts with the Cubs earlier this season, going 1-1 with a 3.73 ERA. He suffered a shoulder injury which forced him to the disabled list. He was sent to the minor leagues after being activated from the DL.
