Giants' Vin Mazzaro: Accepts assignment to Triple-A

Mazzaro has joined Sacramento after accepting his assignment to Triple-A, Joe Salvatore of KCBS Radio reports. Mazzaro was designated by the Giants on Friday after two appearances which resulted in an ERA of 63.00 and WHIP of 8.00. Despite the obviously horrendous start to the season, the 29-year-old still has plenty of major league experience and could certainly find his way back to the Giants' bullpen at a later point in the summer.

Giants' Vin Mazzaro: Designated for assignment Friday

Mazzaro was designated for assignment by the Giants on Friday. The Rockies kept the hit parade going against Mazzaro after Matt Cain left Thursday's game, racking up six base knocks and seven earned runs off the right-hander. Mazzaro managed to record just one out. He will now be subjected to waivers, but Mazzaro may ultimately accept an outright assignment back to Triple-A.

Giants' Vin Mazzaro: Recalled Saturday by Giants

Mazzaro was called up by the Giants on Saturday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports. He takes Mike Broadway's spot in the bullpen, after Broadway was optioned to Triple-A on Saturday. The veteran righty reliever posted a 3.75 ERA last year with the Marlins, although he has never been overpowering. His 0.64 ERA in 14 innings at Triple-A likely prompted the promotion, but he is unlikely to see high-leverage looks with the big club.

Giants' Vin Mazzaro: Allows no runs in season opener

Mazzaro threw 1.1 innings Thursday, striking out one and allowing no runs in Triple-A Sacramento's game against Salt Lake. Mazzaro had a rocky spring training, allowing four earned runs and 11 hits in 5.0 innings of work. He isn't currently on the Giants' 40-man roster, but has bounced between the minors and majors for the last few years with moderate success, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he found his way there again this season.
