    • Bloom returned to Pirates

News: The Tigers returned the contract of left-handed pitcher Kyle Bloom to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Bloom posted a 5-8 record, 4.19 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 28 outings (22 starts) for Double-A Altoona last season.
Analysis: Bloom started seven games for West Oahu in the Hawaii Winter League following the season, compiling a 2-0 record, 1.50 ERA and 32 strikeouts. There is no reason to own him in Fantasy right now.
    • Tigers sign seven players to deals

News: On Monday, the Tigers agreed to 2009 contracts with right-handed pitchers Kyle Bloom, Alfredo Figaro, Chris Lambert and Zach Simons; catcher Dusty Ryan; infielder Michael Hollimon; and outfielder Casper Wells.
Analysis: Lambert might get a look for a spot in the rotation this spring. Ryan has some upside as a power-hitting catcher and a chance to earn a job as a backup. None of these other players should make a Fantasy impact in 2009.
    • Tigers pick Bloom from Pirates

News: The Tigers selected left-handed pitcher Kyle Bloom from the Pirates in the Rule-5 Draft. Bloom has compiled a 33-38 record and 4.26 ERA in 116 games (110 starts) in five seasons in the minors.
Analysis: Bloom posted a 5-8 record, 4.19 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 28 outings (22 starts) for Double-A Altoona. He started seven games for West Oahu in the Hawaii Winter League following the season, compiling a 2-0 record, 1.50 ERA and 32 strikeouts. Bloom was second in the league with a 1.50 ERA. If he makes the Tigers roster, it will be as nothing more than a middle reliever. Ignore him on Draft Day, because he is a long shot to even make the team.
