      Padres relief pitcher Shawn Kelley (forearm) threw a 20-pitch simulated game Friday and expects to be ready to return Tuesday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Interim manager Pat Murphy said afterward that Kelley's "fastball command is not quite there, but he's healthy." A forearm strain has sidelined Kelley since Sept. 1, but if he makes it through one more bullpen session Sunday, he should be available for the Giants series next week.

Kelley is on the disabled list with a strained left calf and was able to throw 25 pitches Wednesday. He is expected to pitch Friday for the team's Class A affiliate and then head to Triple-A sometime next week. "He's ready to go, and he feels good," manager Bud Black said. "There's a number of things he and [pitching coach] Darren [Balsley] have worked on that will go into effect Friday. There's a couple more games for him scheduled for next week that will hopefully prepare him for his return to us."
