    Twins shake up roster following four-game sweep

    The Twins made a couple of roster moves following Thursday's 9-3 loss to the Blue Jays. Catcher Chris Herrmann and right-handed reliever A.J. Achter have been recalled from Triple-A Rochester. Herrmann was up earlier with the team, going 10 for 64 with a home run and eight RBI in 25 games as the back-up catcher. Achter will be looking to make his season debut for the Twins. He did make seven appearances in 2014, posting a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings of relief. At Triple-A this year, he is 4-2 with a 2.82 ERA and 14 saves in 40 appearances for the Red Wings. In corresponding moves, right-hander Tyler Duffey was optioned to the minors and catcher Eric Fryer was designated for assignment, according to MLB.com. Duffey endured a horrific MLB debut in his start against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Fryer has just three hits in 18 at-bats this season.

    Twins C Eric Fryer with key two-run double in victory Wednesday

    Just recalled from Triple-A earlier in the day, Twins catcher Eric Fryer came through with the biggest hit of the game on Wednesday. Fryer went 2 for 3 with a big two-run double in the seventh inning of the 5-3 win over the Orioles. The double put the Twins up 5-1, which was big since the Orioles put up two runs in the top of the eighth. Fryer was making his first appearance with the Twins this season.

    Twins C Chris Hermann optioned to Triple-A; C Eric Fryer recalled

    The Twins have optioned catcher Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester following Tuesday's game. Hermann, who has been backing up starter Kurt Suzuki this year, has 10 hits in 64 at-bats, including a home run and eight RBI. Fellow catcher Eric Fryer has been called up to replace Hermann on the roster. Fryer has spent all season with Triple-A, but has been hitting well. He owns a .299 batting average in 51 games for the Red Wings.

    Twins' Molitor: Pinto, Herrmann Fryer competing for backup catcher spot

    Twins manager Paul Molitor told reporters on Tuesday that there is a three-man race between Josmil Pinto, Chris Herrmann and Eric Fryer for the club's backup role behind Kurt Suzuki, per MLB.com. "That's going to be an interesting competition," Molitor said. "There's different criteria you can consider. Do you want the guy that is going to be your best defender for 30-40 games or you want to have the offense and hopefully have enough defense? I'm open-minded." At this point, Pinto may be the early favorite because of his threat at the plate. He hit 257/.339/.445 with 11 homers and 30 RBIs in 78 career games with Minnesota. Herrmann slashed .194/.264/.284 hitter in 97 games over parts of three years with the Twins. Fryer is hitting .246 in 50 career games.

    Twins catcher Eric Fryer went 3 for 6 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in his team's 16-3 shellacking of the White Sox Sunday. Fryer scored in the sixth and eighth innings before following up back-to-back home runs in the ninth with one of his own. Both the home run and his stolen base were the first of the season for the catcher. Fryer has hit .243/.300/.351 in 37 at-bats.
