Rockies' Brian Schlitter: Signs minor league deal with Rockies

Schlitter signed a minor league contract with Colorado on Monday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports. Schlitter spent most of the 2015 season pitching in Triple-A Iowa, but made a few appearances for the Cubs. He struggled at the big league level last year, and will try to turn things around in Colorado and try to secure a spot in their bullpen in 2016.

Cubs pitcher Edwin Jackson earning Joe Maddon's trust

Cubs relief pitcher Edwin Jackson is slowly making the transition into a full-time reliever. With the adjustment to his game, manager Joe Maddon is noticing how well he's doing out of the bullpen, reports "Jacks is starting to take to it," Maddon said. Jackson has a perfect 0.00 ERA in five innings of work this season with three strikeouts and no walks. Maddon noted he hasn't used Jackson anymore than he normally would have and it has nothing to do with the struggles of Brian Schlitter and Jason Motte. "I'm not saying you're not going to see Schlitter or Motte," Maddon said. "You always kind of like when it first starts out, you play it like it was first drawn up and don't try to make too many adjustments too soon until you need to try something differently. More than anything, I think Jackson has earned the right or opportunity to pitch in more opportune moments or more difficult moments for him."

Cubs place Justin Grimm on DL with forearm inflammation

The Cubs have placed pitcher Justin Grimm on the 15-day disabled list on Friday due to right forearm inflammation, per the team's official website. The move will be retroactive to April 2. The team recalled right-hander Brian Schlitter from Triple-A Iowa to join the bullpen. "I never put a finish line on a DL stint, but I hear it's not too serious," Maddon said, per the Chicago Tribune. "It's one of those things he thought he could get through but eventually got to the point (of being placed on the DL). It's been off and on the latter part of spring training. But it's one of those things that the pitcher thinks 'I'll through through it and it will be OK' but just didn't want to seem to resolve itself. So resting is the right thing."
