White Sox's Brett Lawrie: Agrees to deal to avoid arbitration

Lawrie agreed to a one-year, $4.125 million contract with the White Sox on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports. The 25-year-old was traded for the second consecutive offseason, moving from Oakland to Chicago last month. Lawrie's on-base percentage dipped yet again in 2015 -- his OBP has fallen every year since his debut -- but Lawrie hit a career-high 16 homers and drove in 60 runs in Oakland last season. He will play his home games in a much more hitter-friendly environment in 2016 as the White Sox's starting second baseman.

White Sox's Brett Lawrie: Traded to White Sox

Lawrie was traded to the White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for pitchers Zachary Erwin and J.B. Wendelken. Lawrie will head to his fourth team after spending last season with the A's. He posted a career-low .706 OPS, but he played in a career-high 149 games and tallied 48 extra-base hits. He will become the White Sox' primary third baseman and figures to hit in the lower portion of the batting order.

Athletics 3B Danny Valencia not in Wednesday's lineup

Athletics third baseman Danny Valencia (shoulder) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox. Stiffness in Valencia's trapezius muscle resulted in the 30-year-old's scratch from Tuesday's lineup, and he'll be forced to sit again Wednesday. Brett Lawrie will start again at third base, but look for Valencia to push Lawrie back to the keystone once healthy, while likely also returning to the cleanup spot in the batting order.
