Texas Rangers' Mitch Moreland Gets the start Friday

Moreland is in the lineup for Game 2 of the ALDS Friday against the Blue Jays, Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake reports. Moreland was held out of Thursday's lineup with the Rangers using a righty-heavy lineup against Blue Jays ace David Price, but he will replace Mike Napoli at first base for Friday's contest. With Adrian Beltre (back) not starting Friday, Prince Fielder will move up to the third spot in the order, and Moreland will hit cleanup for the Rangers.

Moreland managed just three hits in 16 at-bats during this four-game sweep against Houston, but all of them were for extra bases (a double, two homers) and he drove in six runs in that span. Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland dealing with various injuries

Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland is currently playing through multiple minor injuries, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Evan Grant reports. He has a bad ankle and sore lower legs, which is why he has been confined to first base or DH lately. Still, with the Rangers trying to win the division, Moreland should be in the lineup most days down the stretch.

Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland has first career four-hit game

Those figuring that Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland was destined to come back to earth likely cited two straight hitless efforts for proof. But he might just be having one of those years - as his effort Thursday in Minnesota indicates. Moreland fell only a triple short of the cycle in leading the offensive charge in a taut victory. His two-run homer in the fourth opened the scoring for Texas and two-run double in the fifth gave them the lead. He also singled twice in achieving the first four-hit game of his career. His 17 home runs are only six short of his career-high and his .295/.345/.511 slash line is easily his best ever.
