    Giants cut 11 from big-league camp Wednesday

    The Giants made 11 cuts Wednesday, including optioning outfielder Gary Brown, infielder Adam Duvall and pitchers Jose De Paula and Michael Kickham to Triple-A Fresno. The team also optioned pitchers Kendry Flores and Hunter Strickland to high Class A San Jose. Catcher Andrew Susac, infielder Chris Dominguez and pitchers Jason Berken, Mitch Lively and Mason Tobin were re-assigned to minor-league camp.

    Giants send six players to the minors

    The Giants announced Wednesday they reassigned reliever Jason Berken and reliever Mitch Lively to minor-league camp. They also optioned starting pitcher Jose De Paula and starting pitcher Michael Kickham to Triple-A Fresno, while starting pitcher Kendry Flores and reliever Hunter Strickland to Class A San Jose.

    Giants sign five to minor-league deals

    The Giants have signed catcher Guillermo Quiroz and pitchers Daryl Maday, Mason Tobin, Jason Berken and Caleb Clay to minor-league deals, Baseball America reports. Quiroz hit .186/.237/.302 with one home run and six RBI in 86 at-bats with the Giants last season. Maday went 1-2 with a 4.17 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 39:20 K:BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Fresno. Tobin went 3-0 with a 5.24 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 23:17 K:BB ratio in 34 1/3 innings with Triple-A Fresno. Berken went 12-12 with a 3.80 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 117:46 K:BB ratio in 161 innings over 27 starts with Triple-A Charlotte last season. Clay went 11-5 with a 2.96 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 110:31 K:BB ratio in 158 1/3 innings between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse.

    White Sox sign Jason Berken to a minor-league deal

    The White Sox have signed pitcher Jason Berken, and assigned him to Triple-A Charlotte. Berken spent 19 2/3 innings in the majors last season, posting a 5.49 ERA. He's been used as a starter most of his minor-league career, although he also has some experience out of the bullpen. He will likely provide depth if the team struggles with injuries.

    Berken drops another for Cubs

    Cubs starter Jason Berken couldn't go deep enough to qualify for a win Monday at home against Houston. Berken lasted just 4 2/3 innings as he gave up two earned runs on four hits and a walk over 61 pitches. Berken struck out two in the outing and ended up with the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season in his final start.
