      Mets' 2008 first-round pick retires after oft-injured career

      Mets infielder Reese Havens has chosen to retire after an oft-injured career, reports ESPN. The 2008 first-round pick (22nd overall) never played more than 97 games in a season, batting .252 with a .355 on-base percentage, .423 slugging percentage and .777 OPS in his minor-league career.

      Reese Havens not safe on 40-man roster

      The Mets outrighted second baseman Reese Havens to Double-A Binghamton on Friday after he cleared waivers. Havens was dropped from the 40-man roster after hitting .091 during the spring with more strikeouts (four) than walks and hits combined (three).

      Mets reassign prospects

      The Mets reassigned 10 players to minor-league camp Sunday, which included a few of their top prospects. Among the group of cuts included Zack Wheeler, Hansel Robles, Reese Havens and Cesar Puello. Also reassigned were Darin Gorski, Gonzalez Germen, Collin McHugh, Elvin Ramirez, Wilfredo Tovar and Juan Lagares.
