• Red Sox trim their roster by four

News: The Red Sox optioned 2B Kevin Frandsen and catcher Dusty Brown to Triple-A Pawtucket and reassigned infielder Jorge Jimenez and catcher Gustavo Molina to minor league camp Monday.
Analysis: These players could get call-ups, but they figure to be merely reserves if needed. Ignore them in all Fantasy leagues on Draft Day.
  • Marlins trim eight more from roster

News: The Marlins sent outfielder Jai Miller, lefty reliever Taylor Tankersley, right-hander Cristhian Martinez, RHP Kasey Olenberger, C Vinny Rottino, infielder Danny Richar and outfielder Scott Cousins to the minors Saturday. Also, Rule-5 third baseman Jorge Jimenez was returned to the Boston Red Sox.
Analysis: Jimenez has pop in his bat, but he won't be a real candidate to help the Red Sox this season, so ignore him and the rest of these players in all leagues at this point.
  • Jimenez firmly in 3B mix for Marlins

News: The Palm Beach Post reports that Marlins 3B Jorge Jimenez is firmly in the mix for the third base job. "He swings the bat. He's a solid third baseman. He's got a plus-plus arm," manager Fredi Gonzalez said Tuesday.
Analysis: The corner infield jobs in Florida are certainly not cemented right now. If neither Logan Morrison or Gaby Sanchez proves ready to play 1B, Jorge Cantu will move there, leaving 3B open for Jimenez, who hit .289 with 13 homers, 87 RBI, 63 runs and three steals in Double-A last season. He's certainly worth keeping a very close eye on in NL-only leagues over the next week or two.
  • Jimenez completes Lindstrom deal

News: On Thursday, the Astros sent Jorge Jimenez to the Marlins to complete the Matt Lindstrom. Jimenez was originally selected by the Astros from the Boston Red Sox organization in the winter meeting draft.
Analysis: Jimenez hit .289 with 13 homers, 87 RBI, 63 runs, three steals (a .366 OBP and .422 SLUG) in 498 Double-A at-bats in the Red Sox organization. He will have a chance to compete for at-bats at third with the Marlins, but we definitely do not see a Dan Uggla Rule-5 find here. Jimenez is more of a solid reserve, if he spends the year with the Marlins at this point. If he doesn't, he will head back to minor league obscurity with the Red Sox.
