    Phillies option Rene Garcia, Ruzz Canzler, Cord Phelps to Triple-A

    The Phillies have optioned catcher Rene Garcia and infielders Russ Canzler and Cord Phelps to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Garcia hit .158 with one double in 19 plate appearances this spring. Canzler hit .267 with two doubles and four RBI in 45 plate appearances in spring training while Phelps hit .311 with one home run and six RBI in 45 at-bats.

    Phillies' Amaro: Domonic Brown likely to open season on DL

    Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Monday outfielder Domonic Brown is likely to open the season on the disabled list, per MLB.com. Brown has been sidelined since leaving a March 19 spring game due to Achillies tendinitis. With Brown sidelined, Amaro said the top candidates to replace him in right field are Brian Bogusevic, Jordan Danks, Jeff Francoeur and Russ Canzler. Odubel Herrera is expected to start in center field and Ben Revere in left field for Philadelphia.
