    The Phillies have selected pitchers Jeanmar Gomez and Cesar Jimenez's contracts for the upcoming season, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Gomez posted a 0.71 ERA with nine strikeouts in 10 appearances this spring while posted a 4.35 ERA with 10 strikeouts and three walks in eight appearances.

"He's been pretty impressive," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "I like him with his command. He works ahead in the count. For me, he's a candidate for a two-inning stint out of the bullpen. He has the experience. He also throws strikes, and he throws strikes with his slider right from the get-go out of the bullpen." Gomez has seen plenty of major-league action, but last year was his first season working exclusively as a reliever, and he delivered a 3.19 ERA and 38:23 K:BB ratio in 62 innings with the Pirates.
