      Logan Ondrusek hooks on in Japan

      Free-agent reliever Logan Ondrusek has joined the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of the Nippon Professional Baseball league, according to the Japan Times. Ondrusek spent the last five seasons with the Reds. He was non-tendered by the club in December. Ondrusek is set to make $1.2 million with the Swallows next year. He posted a 5.49 ERA over 41 innings.

      The Twins are not done trying to bolster what in 2014 was a woeful pitching staff. Among the free agents in whom they are interested are sometimes-starter Dustin McGowan and full-time reliever Logan Ondrusek, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. McGowan pitched in a career-high 53 games last year with Toronto, compiling a 5-3 record and 4.17 ERA. Ondrusek has declined over the last two seasons and managed a 3-3 mark with a 5.49 ERA with Cincinnati in 2014.

"He was very impressive," manager Bryan Price said. "I imagine he'll probably throw another bullpen here probably on Friday or Saturday and reassess. He's not so far removed from competition that he'd need an extended rehab or anything like that. We'll have to decide if he needs a rehab outing or two, or not."       Logan Ondrusek resumes throwing program Tuesday

      Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek resumed a throwing program Tuesday, playing catch on the outfield grass, MLB.com reports. He has been out since July 13 with a strained shoulder. "He still had just a bit of soreness [Monday], so that's a good sign," manager Bryan Price said. "There will be a throwing protocol. He's going to have to take some steps as far as effort level, long toss and bullpen to be able to sign off on reactivation. If we activate him and he's sore in his first outing, we have to put him back on for 15 days." Ondrusek owns a 4.31 ERA and 29:13 K:BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings.

      Logan Ondrusek picks up win Tuesday

      Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek was credited with a win Tuesday after giving up no runs on two hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings while striking out two in his team's 6-5 victory over the Pirates. While Ondrusek (2-2) wasn't charged with a run, he did allow the game-tying run to cross the plate on one of his two hits after inheriting two baserunners in the seventh inning to earn a second straight blown save. He pitched a clean eighth before the Reds took the lead in the top of the ninth. Ondrusek owns a 4.26 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings.
