Orioles RP Zach Britton shuts the door for 36th save on Saturday

Orioles closer Zach Britton recorded his 36th save in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Yankees, surrendering a hit in a scoreless ninth inning. Britton recorded his third consecutive scoreless outing after a rare hiccup on Sept. 20 against the Rays, in which he blew a save while surrendering a pair of earned runs in less than an inning. As customary, Britton was sharp with his control and stingy with fly balls, throwing seven of his 11 pitches for strikes and keeping batted balls exclusively on the ground for the third straight appearance. The only blemish on Saturday's performance was the hard-throwing southpaw's failure to record at least one strikeout for the first time since Aug. 19 against the Mets.

Orioles RP Zach Britton returns Sunday with scoreless inning

Orioles reliever Zach Britton (back) tossed a scoreless inning in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox. Britton pitched Sunday for the first time in over a week. He was used in a non-save situation, but will presumably be available to close if the Orioles need to protect a late lead before the regular season comes to an end.

MRI reveals no structural damage to lat muscle of Orioles' Zach Britton

Orioles pitcher Zach Britton had an MRI on his left lat muscle, Roch Kubatko of reports. The MRI didn't show any serious structural damage, so the waiting game will continue for the Orioles closer, who hasn't pitched since giving up two runs Sept. 20. Darren O'Day has been closing for Baltimore in Britton's absence and should continue to get a few more opportunities if any save chances arise.

Orioles RP Zach Britton making progress from lat issue

Orioles pitcher Zach Britton (lat) remains day to day, but was feeling better Wednesday and could play catch Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. Britton is dealing with a sore left lat muscle, but it's not something that should affect him long-term, but it could cost him a couple of days. In the meantime, Darren O'Day will likely serve as the team's main closer.

Orioles closer Zach Britton has a sore left lat muscle, the Baltimore Sun's Eduardo Encina reports. Darren O'Day pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season Tuesday against the Nationals.

Orioles RP Zach Britton sufferd third blown save in loss to Rays

Orioles closer Zach Britton coughed up a save opportunity and took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts against the Rays. Britton had been brilliant in September, entering Sunday's game with one hit allowed in eight innings, with no walks and 13 strikeouts. However, it has been whispered that Britton might get more rest as the season winds down. A home run he allowed to Brandon Guyer was the first Britton had allowed since July 17 and just the third allowed on the season.

Orioles RP Zach Britton available out of bullpen on Friday

Orioles closer Zach Britton is available to pitch Friday, Brittany Ghilori of reports. Britton hasn't thrown since Tuesday, however, it appears as if Britton was merely getting some rest as the season draws to a close. He's been terrific once again this season, completing 33-of-36 save chances on the year, and he hasn't allowed a run since Aug. 30.

Orioles closer Zach Britton escapes jam in ninth to earn victory

Orioles closer Zach Britton improved his win total rather than his save total Wednesday against the visiting Mets. Britton improved to 4-0 by entering by blanking the Mets in the top of the ninth and watching his team win it in the bottom of the inning. It wasn't a cakewalk. Britton allowed two singles, but a double play helped him escape trouble. Britton hasn't been lights-out lately. He has given up 10 hits over his last nine innings, but has been scored-upon just once during that stretch.
