      Kozma was outrighted off the 40-man roster Monday, Jenifer Langosch of reports. Kozma had a couple of successful stints in the majors in the past, but struggled mightily in 2015, working to a line of .152/.236/.152 in 99 at bats. He'll provide infield depth within the organization.

      A late entry into the starting lineup on Thursday, Cardinals infielder Pete Kozma went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Marlins. Kozma, a part-time player for the Cardinals, had been hitless in his last 18 at-bats, dating back to May 19. This was Kozma's first multi-hit performance since 2013. "Pete was great offensively and defensively the play he made up the middle was just fantastic," manager Mike Matheny said, per FoxSports Midwest. "A good day all around for Pete. We needed that."

      With the Cardinals facing a left-hander on Tuesday, manager Mike Matheny has loaded his lineup with right-handed bats. Both Jason Heyward and Matt Carpenter will start the game on the bench, despite the fact that both men are hitting over .300 against southpaws this season. In fact, Heyward. is hitting better against lefties than righties (.368 vs. .196). Randal Grichuk will man right field and Pete Kozma is handling third base on Tuesday. Kolten Wong is the only left-handed bat in Matheny's starting lineup.

      As expected, the Cardinals do not have Matt Holliday or Jon Jay in their lineup for Thursday's game against the Indians. Holliday was plunked in the elbow yesterday, though x-rays came back negative. Jay, who has left wrist tendinitis, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday. The Cardinals have shifted their lineup around on the diamond as a result of Holliday's absence. Mark Reynolds will play left field, Jhonny Peralta will be the designated hitter and Pete Kozma will step in at shortstop.
