      Rockies designate RP Rafael Betancourt for assignment

      The Rockies have designated veteran reliever Rafael Betancourt for assignment, possibly ending the pitcher's career, per the Denver Post. Betancourt was 2-4 with one save and a 6.18 ERA in 45 games for the Rockies this season. He told the paper that he was considering retirement after 12 MLB seasons with the Cleveland and Colorado. The Rockies also recalled right-handed pitcher Jairo Diaz and selected the contract of right-hander Simon Castro.

      Simon Castro signs a minor-league deal with Rockies

      The Rockies signed reliever Simon Castro to a minor-league deal on Friday, Baseball America reports. Castro pitched for Triple-A Charlotte and made four appearances in the majors last season. He posted a 5.83 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP last season in the minors.

      Simon Castro recalled by White Sox

      The White Sox recalled reliever Simon Castro from Triple-A Charlotte Saturday. Castro will pitch in long relief for Chicago after the White Sox optioned Brian Omogrosso. Castro was 3-6 with a 4.92 ERA over 16 appearances -- including 12 starts -- with Charlotte this season. Castro, 25. was at one time considered a solid prospect, though that is no longer the case.

      Castro among White Sox cuts

      The Chicago White Sox made 10 roster moves following Monday's Cactus League game against the Rockies. Among the 10 moves, the Sox optioned Simon Castro and Santos Rodriguez to Triple-A Charlotte. They optioned Nestor Molina to Double-A Birmingham and reassigned Stefan Gartrell, Erik Johnson, Marcus Semien, Scott Snodgress, Trayce Thompson and Keenyn Walker to minor league camp.

      White Sox prospect Simon Castro received the start in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Rangers and had a solid showing. He surrendered just one hit over three shutout innings in the 8-4 win. The right-hander also struck out three and walked one. "This year he has that maturity, more command and that confidence from being another year into it," manager Robin Ventura said.
