Mariners' Jesus Sucre: Out six months after leg surgery

Sucre will miss the next six months after undergoing leg surgery to repair a broken fibula and a severely sprained right ankle, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. Sucre was originally expected to miss six weeks recovering from the injury, but his timetable has been drastically extended since he opted for surgery. This doesn't change the Mariners' pecking order at catcher much, as Chris Ianetta, Mike Zunino, and Steve Clevenger are all slated ahead of him. The updated timetable projects Sucre to return in late July or early August.

Mariners' Jesus Sucre: Will miss six weeks with broken fibula

Sucre will miss the next six weeks with a broken fibula, Marcos Grunfeld of Modern Sports Media reports. Sucre suffered the injury during Winter League and the initial timetable for return suggests he'll be ready for Opening Day against the Padres on April 4, but there's blatant concern for his ability to report to camp with fellow catchers and pitchers on Feb. 19. Although, Chris Iannetta, Mike Zunino, and Steve Clevenger were likely already slotted above Sucre on the depth chart.

Mariners C Jesus Sucre hits first MLB home run in loss Saturday

Making just his 13th start behind the plate this season, Mariners catcher Jesus Sucre went deep for his first Major League home run on Saturday. The Mariners would go on to lose the game to the Blue Jays by a score of 8-6. Sucre's homer cut the Jays' lead to 3-2 in the second inning. It was his only hit of the game. Sucre had played 43 games prior to hitting the first longball of his career. And while the home run was nice, a win would have been nicer for Sucre. "It really feels good, but it could be better if we win the game," Sucre said, per MLB.com. "We play as a team, so all we want to do is win the game. We just couldn't do it. "I mean, all we want to do is win games. That's all we need. We tried to do our best, but it didn't happen today."
