    Padres promote quartet from minors

    The Padres promoted four players Monday, including an experienced starter in Robbie Erlin, per MLB.com. Also brought up were infielder Cody Decker and pitchers Jay Jackson and Casey Kelly. Kelly and Erlin are slated to start at least one game before the regular season concludes. The latter has struggled in 20 major league starts and has yet to pitch for San Diego in 2015. Decker popped out in his first major league at-bat Monday.

    Robbie Erlin, Matt Wisler among Padres' camp cuts Sunday

    The Padres optioned pitchers Robbie Erlin and Leonel Campos to Triple-A El Paso and re-assigned shortstop Diego Goris and pitchers Matt Wisler and Jay Jackson to minor-league camp Sunday. Erlin has started 20 games for the major-league team over the last two seasons. He finishes his spring with two earned runs allowed in six innings. Wisler, who is considered one of the team's top pitching prospects, allowed eight earned runs in five innings over three appearances.

    Brewers acquire pitcher Jay Jackson from Pirates

    The Brewers have acquired minor league right-hander Jay Jackson from the Pirates for cash considerations. Jackson is 5-4 with a 4.89 ERA at Triple-A Indianapolis. He will report to Triple-A Nashville.

    Pirates get closer to finalizing opening day roster

    The Pirates made several roster moves Tuesday, including optioning Jaff Decker and Jared Hughes to Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates also reassigned Robert Andino, Chris Dickerson, Jay Jackson, Michael Martinez , Omir Santos, Daniel Schlereth, Zack Thornton and Adam Wilk to minor-league camp.

    Jay Jackson surfaces with Marlins

    The Marlins signed pitcher Jay Jackson to a minor-league contract on Friday. Jackson, who was selected by the Cubs in the ninth round of the 2008 MLB Draft, went 3-7 with a 6.57 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 37 games (nine starts) for Triple-A Iowa last season.

    Cubs starting pitcher Jay Jackson gave up three runs and five hits in four innings during Chicago's Cactus League outing against Arizona on Monday. Jackson matched his longest outing of the spring while striking out one batter and walking one. Two of his runs allowed came on a pair of solo home runs as his ERA grew to 3.71 following his second exhibition start.
